About Greg Knepil

Many patients have been surprised to find that Greg is actually a Glaswegian, however, the family name originates from Eastern Europe. After leaving the Glasgow Academy School, he studied for a Bachelors degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) at Edinburgh University. Following graduation, he spent a year as a junior dental trainee in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, igniting a fascination for facial medicine and surgery. After completing this post, he returned to university to study medicine at St Andrews and Manchester Universities where he graduated as a medical doctor (MB ChB).

Following registration, he undertook a three-year surgical training rotation as a Senior House Officer (SHO), and then extended this training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as the Senior SHO.

He was then successful in becoming appointed as a Surgical Registrar in Australia where he worked at the world-renowned Sydney Head and Neck Cancer, and Melanoma Institute.

After training in Australia, Greg returned to the UK to continue his training at one of the most prestigious training programmes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In this post he gained extensive experience, including the management of facial deformity, trauma, cancer, oral surgery, skin cancer surgery, salivary gland surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, cosmetic surgery, and micro-vascular reconstructive surgery.

At the completion of his higher surgical training he was successfully appointed to the only GMC recognized Fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery (Interface Fellowship), where he completed his cosmetic surgery training.

Greg is an active researcher, bringing the benefits of his research to his patients, and has published articles in many respected medical journals. A list of recent publications can be found here.

In 2009, Greg moved to Cheltenham with his wife, to take up the appointment of Consultant Surgeon in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Greg's duties include provision of oral and maxillofacial surgical services, and Senior Lecturer for the University of Bristol Medical School. His subspecialist interests include Skin Cancer, Salivary Gland Disease, and surgery for Facial Deformity.

When Greg is not working, he likes to spend time with his family, is a keen supporter of the Scottish Rugby team, and can be seen cycling around the Cotswolds.

Greg undertakes private practice at the Nuffield Cheltenham Hospital, and Winfield Gloucestershire Hospital.
